The Pee Dee Workforce Development Board (WDB) is a “board of directors” empowered by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) of 2014 to design and oversee a regional workforce system for Chesterfield, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Marion and Marlboro Counties. The federal government invests in the Pee Dee Region to train and re-train workers towards self-sufficiency.
Board members are appointed by county councils, approved by the Governor and serve voluntarily. The membership is comprised of business and industry leaders, CEOs, plant managers and executives of public agencies partnering to improve the quality of the workforce.
The Board meets quarterly to discuss and provide solutions for regional workforce issues. It provides information on in-demand skills, jobs and careers that are available and the identification and development of programs that best meet local employer needs. The WDB partners with a number of non-profit agencies to provide seamless service for job seekers at SC Works Centers and with youth providers.
Mission: The mission of the Pee Dee Workforce Development Board is to facilitate effective workforce-related discussions, programs, and partnerships that aim to reduce employment barriers and create a thriving Pee Dee Workforce Region.
Vision: The vision of the Pee Dee Workforce Development Board is to support a unified workforce development system of strategic partnerships that are focused on support, collaboration, and progression for all businesses, job seekers, and other stakeholders in the Pee Dee Workforce Region.
